About

Our Vision

CSUN InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is a community that follows Jesus, loves CSUN, and empowers world-changers.

Our Affiliation

We are a multi-ethnic, inter-denominational Christian Fellowship. We have no denominational or church ties. We encourage church attendance and recognize the diversity of traditions. At CSUN, we are one chapter of over 500 in the United States who are affiliated with InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA.

Our History

InterVarsity’s first chapter on the CSUN campus came in the late 1950s, when Cal State Northridge was first established in the San Fernando Valley. Geography professor, Dr. John W. Alexander began an InterVarsity chapter on the campus during his one year tenure at the University. Dr. Alexander eventually went on to teach in the midwest and in the 1960s was invited to serve as InterVarsity/USA President.

Throughout the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, InterVarsity students gathered together in fellowship at CSUN, to pray and engage the campus with the gospel. From 1990 to 2001, a reorganization of InterVarsity chapters in Southern California left CSUN without IV staff. In 2001, InterVarsity in Southern California recommitted staff to build the InterVarsity chapter at CSUN. Since 2001, groups of students have been meeting together in prayer, support, fellowship, and ministry.

Our Network on campus

As a campus organization, we are grateful to be associated with United Campus Ministries. This association of various Christian groups on the CSUN campus facilitates partnership and community among Christian staff, faculty, and students. As a student organization, we also pride ourselves of being a part of the CSUN clubs and organizations community. Cal State Northridge is our home and our mission field.
